Malaysia's most popular esports league embraces neon energy, digital vibes, and sci-fi edge ahead of the film's 9 October release

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 22 September 2025—The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia yesterday (21 September) unveiled a crossover with TRON: Ares, an upcoming Hollywood science fiction action film. The MPL Malaysia Season 16 arena in Sri Putra Hall with light up with futuristic TRON: Ares-themed offline activations from during Weeks 3 (26 to 28 September) and 4 (3 to 5 October). The grid will also intersect with the MPL Malaysia battlefield across multiple other touchpoints, including the official live broadcast, the leagues owned channel platforms, and exclusive screenings of the film.

Krystal Tan, Head of Business Development for Malaysia Esports at MOONTON Games, said: "TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated programme's journey from the digital world into the real world, marking humankind's first encounter with artificial intelligence beings. This collision of worlds is similarly reflected in the arrival of TRON: Ares in the MPL Malaysia universe—the intersection of esports and the big screen. We expect this to be many movie-goers' first encounter with esports, which nicely sets up our journey to an "enhanced franchised league" next season and mainstream form of entertainment."

Week 2 Table Watch: CG Esports Continues Meteoric Climb

At the end of Week 2, CG Esports (CG) tops the table with 9 points after stretching their win-streak in their debut season to three. They secured consecutive 2-0 wins over Untitled (on Day 2, 20 September) and Monster Vicious (on Day 3, 21 September) to prove that the legacy of their veteran line-up still burns bright—despite being a completely new esports organisation, they are led by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) legend, Muhammad Danial "CikuGais" Mohamad Fuad, who exploded onto the scene in 2019. CikuGais has won the league thrice with Todak (TDK), where he played every single role. CG re-entered MPL Malaysia in Season 16 after securing promotion in Season 3 of MLBB Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY).

Team Vamos (VMS) sit in second place with 8 points after notching two wins in Week 2. They opened Week 2 on a promising note after claiming a 2-0 victory over GamesMY Kelantan (GMXK), but lost ground to the league leaders after dropping a game—and a point—tragainst AERO Esports (AERO) on Day 3 in their 2-1 victory.

League favourites, Selangor Red Giants OG Esports (SRG), sit in third with 5 points from 2 matches played. CG and VMS will be looking over their shoulders at the history-making three-time league champions, who have a game in hand.

Note on the Season 16 Regular Season Tiebreaker:

During the Regular Season, teams are ranked based on Live Points; these are earned based on the results of each team's Best-Of-Three matches. A 2-0 win earns teams three points; a 2-1 win earns them two points; a 1-2 loss earns teams one point; a 0-2 loss earns teams zero points.

If multiple teams are tied and are unable to determine the winner through Live Points ranking, the tied teams will be ranked by their Aggregate Points, determined by their number of winning games. Teams get one point for winning a game and deducted one point for losing a game.

The next tiebreaker will be the head-to-head record of the tied teams.

Week 3 Preview: Battle Between Mentor (CikuGais) & Apprentice (YumS)

Against the backdrop of the TRON: Ares activations, Week 3 will feature a mouthwatering clash between CG's CikuGais and SRG's Muhammad "Yums" Suhairi—the showdown between two of Malaysia’s most-decorated esports athletes who were once held a Mentor-Apprentice relationship. CikuGais had brought YumS into TDK in Season 8 in 2021, where they won two league championships together (Seasons 9 and 11). From brothers then, YumS has since flown higher, following his departure from TDK to SRG in 2023, winning a host of domestic and international titles with SRG, including Malaysia's first major MLBB esports tournament, the Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2024.

CG versus SRG will take place on 28 September at 3:00 PM GMT+8.
