CG Esports (CG) secure first Playoffs berth as Selangor Red Giants OG Esports (SRG) close in after a dramatic Week 4.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 29 September 2025—The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia Season 16 Playoffs will officially kick off from 13 to 16 November 2025, with tickets to go on sale on 10 October. The MPL Malaysia Season 16 Playoffs will take place at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in Serdang, Selangor. The largest agro park in Asia will transform into an esports arena, where four days of world-class, competitive MLBB action will culminate in the crowning of Malaysia's Season 16 champion.

This season's Playoffs promises more than elite-level competition—it marks the end of an era; the Season 16 Playoffs will be the final one under the current model before MPL Malaysia transitions to an "enhanced franchise format" in 2026. This will be fans' last chance to be a part of history and experience the Playoffs in its current form!

The top two teams from MPL Malaysia Season 16 will secure Malaysia's spots on the main stage of the M7 World Championship (M7), the pinnacle of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports. The stakes go beyond the trophy—it's about putting Malaysia on the global esports map as the last major trophy that eludes a Malaysian team.

The winner of MPL Malaysia Season 16 will also secure the lion's share of the USD 100,000 (~MYR 420,800) prize pool.

Season 16 Playoffs Format: Lower Bracket Finals Becomes BO7

The Season 16 Playoffs sees a key format change, with the Lower Bracket Finals extended to a Best-of-Seven (BO7).

Krystal Tan, Head of Business Development for Malaysia Esports at MOONTON Games, said: "Our decision to have a BO7 Lower Bracket Finals reflects our league's maturity and brings the level of competition to parity with the MLBB Esports ecosystem's other top-tier franchises. Additionally, our fans and teams have given feedback that they simply want more esports action during the Lower Bracket Finals, which is one of the most high-stakes points of the season. This season's Lower Bracket Finals promises to be our most exciting yet!"

All the Playoffs matches will be played in a Best-of-Five (BO5) except for the Lower Bracket Finals and Grand Finals, which will both be Best-of-Seven (BO7) matches.

The Playoffs comprises a two-part hybrid elimination format. The first phase will comprise the Upper Bracket Quarter Finals, which will follow a single elimination format, i.e, the losing team will be knocked out of the tournament immediately. The victors of the Upper Bracket Quarter Finals will advance to the Upper Bracket Semi Finals; from this stage onwards, matches will follow a double-elimination format, i.e, teams will not be eliminated until they lose two matches and will fall to the Loser's Bracket upon their first loss.

Week 4 Recap: CG Esports Qualify First To Playoffs As Teammates Reunite!

CG Esports (CG) became the first and only team to secure a Season 16 Playoffs spot despite experiencing a week of mixed results. They were handed a 1-2 loss to AERO Esports (AERO) on Day 1 (3 October), but bounced back with an emphatic victory over Todak (TDK) on Day 3 (5 October) to mathematically confirm their spot with 17 points.

CG's Muhammad Danial "CikuGais" Mohamad Fuad embraces ex-teammate Muhammad "Zahyed" Zaharan after the match. CikuGais left TDK in March this year to form his own team, CG.

Selangor Red Giants OG Esports (SRG) trail in second place with 15 points after claiming victories over Team Vamos (VMS) and GamesMY Kelantan (GMXK) in Week 4. They have an opportunity to overtake the league leaders next week if they beat Team Rey (TR) with their match in hand, courtesy of superior Aggregate Points.

Note on the Season 16 Regular Season Tiebreaker:

During the Regular Season, teams are ranked based on Live Points; these are earned based on the results of each team's Best-Of-Three matches. A 2-0 win earns teams three points; a 2-1 win earns them two points; a 1-2 loss earns teams one point; a 0-2 loss earns teams zero points.

If multiple teams are tied and are unable to determine the winner through Live Points ranking, the tied teams will be ranked by their Aggregate Points, determined by their number of winning games. Teams get one point for winning a game and deducted one point for losing a game.

The next tiebreaker will be the head-to-head record of the tied teams.

SRG's Muhammad "Yums" Suhairi (left) and Mark "Kramm" Rusiana (right) hug ex-teammate, Ilman "Gojes" Zulkifli (middle) after SRG beat VMS 2-0 on Day 2 (4 Oct). Gojes is on loan from SRG this season.

Week 5 Preview: SRG To Claim Second Playoffs Spot?

SRG have an opportunity to claim a second Playoffs spot when they open Week 5 against TR on 10 October at 3:15 PM GMT+8. But beyond that, they have pride at stake after topping the Regular Season table in the last three seasons; they will not want to lose their hat-trick table-topping feat to CG. SRG's ambition will be made easier by CG's tricky match-up against third-placed Homebois on 11 October at 12:30 PM GMT+8.
