12 April 2024

The clash between Homebois and Team HAQ on Seru Saturday had 228,679 Peak Concurrent Views (PCV), 37% higher than the previous Regular Season record set in Season 12, according to Esports Charts.

Homebois became the first team globally to use new Mobile Legends: Bang Bang hero, Chip, in competitive play, en route to a 2-1 win over Monster Vicious on Week 2, Day 1.

King Empire Esports sits top of the Regular Season league standings with 10 points, followed by Selangor Red Giants with 9 points, and Team HAQ with 7 points.

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 April Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia continues to grow in popularity season-on-season. The league set a new record for Regular Season Peak Concurrent Views (PCV) in Week 2 of Season 13; 228,679 fans tuned in online simultaneously to watch Homebois take on Team HAQ on Day 2, according to third-party esports analytics platform, Esports Charts. The new benchmark is 37% higher than the previous record set during the Season 12 Regular Season – the 166,000 PCV between TODAK and HomeBois in Week 4. Homebois have dominated the viewership charts this season, with all three of their matches played taking the top three places by PCV.

New Kings on the block as Chip debuts in Week 2

King Empire Esports dethroned Selangor Red Giants in Week 2 of the Regular Season after accumulating four wins out of four. The league newcomers completed back-to-back clean sweeps over Bountee Esports on Day 2 and Barracuda Esports on Day 3 to seize a maximum 6 points in Week 2. Their victory over Barracuda Esports piles the misery on their opponents, who remain winless after three matches.

Selangor Red Giants sit in second place with 9 points, albeit with a match in hand over the league leaders. They asserted dominance over three-time MPL Malaysia champions, TODAK, by defeating them 2-0 on Day 2 to maintain their perfect record this season. The Red Giants remain the only team yet to drop a game and have accumulated maximum points from all three of their matches. Team HAQ round out the top three teams with 7 points after snatching a point from Homebois on Day 2 and overcoming Monster Vicious on Day 3.

Homebois notched their first wins of the season – against Monster Vicious on Day 1 and Team HAQ on Day 2. The defending champions will appreciate their first points on the scoreboard, but may rue the 2 points dropped after managing only 2-1 scorelines in both matches. Homebois' match against Monster Vicious saw the global debut of new Mobile Legends: Bang Bang hero, Chip, in professional play. Homebois Roamer, Xorn, secured an impressive Kills-Deaths-Assists (KDA) of 1/0/10 in Game 1, earning him the Most-Valuable Player (MVP) of the Game and causing Monster Vicious to ban the hero in their subsequent two games.

Title favourites clash in Week 3

Week 3 of the Regular Season will return from 19 to 21 April, after a week's break for Hari Raya. The opening match will be an opportunity for Selangor Red Giants to make amends for their loss against RSG Malaysia in the Kohai SEA Championship Season 2 Grand Finals last December, where they lost 4-3 in a full series summit clash.

Seru Saturday's highlight match will see Homebois battle King Empire Esports in a must-win match for both teams. For King Empire Esports' Lu "SaSa" Khai Bean and Aeliff "Smooth" Adam Md Ariff, this offers them a chance to avenge their Season 12 Grand Finals loss to Homebois when both played for Team SMG. Their loss forced them to take the long route to the M5 World Championship via the Wild Card stage. It also sees the reunion of SaSa and Muhammad "Udil" Ardiansyah, albeit on opposite sides. Both players are revered by fans as "Kage" after they won numerous accolades with Indonesia's ONIC Esports, including the MLBB Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) and MPL Indonesia.

Day 3 will see TODAK Jungler, Muhammad Syafizan Najmi "Garyy" Kamarulzaman, go up against his former team, Team HAQ. As one of the most expensive transfers in MPL Malaysia history at around MYR 100,000, Garyy, is under massive pressure to perform, especially after TODAK's lukewarm start to Season 13. However, Team HAQ's own Jungler, Janus "Y4nusu" Badando, will offer stiff competition, having already secured MVP of the Match against Bountee Esports in Week 1.

Week 3 of the MPL Malaysia Season 13 Regular Season will see Malaysia's top 10 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) continue their battle to represent the nation at the MLBB Mid Season Cup, where a life-changing ~MYR 14 million (USD 3 million) prize pool awaits. They will also be competing for the lion's share of the ~MYR 468,000 (USD 100,000) prize pool in MPL Malaysia Season 13.
