KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 23 October Malaysia's future Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) stars will go to school for the MLBB Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY) Season 2 Playoffs. Taking place from 24 to 27 October at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the final stage of the nation's developmental league for MLBB will see the top eight teams from the Regular Season clash for the ~MYR 86,490 (USD 20,000) prize pool.

Launched in January this year, MAL MY acts as the bridge between Malaysia's grassroots and national-level esports. It is organised by MOONTON Games and IO Esports and unites the nation's top third-party community tournaments by inviting their strongest representatives to battle for promotion to the biggest competitive stage in Malaysia – MLBB Professional League (MPL) Malaysia. MAL MY aims to build the esports talent pipeline in the nation by providing young players with a more structured entry into the world of professional esports, and prepares Malaysia to host the M6 World Championship, MLBB's flagship international tournament.

The Playoffs will feature the top four teams from each conference – the Challenger Conference, comprising the top six teams from MAL MY Season 1 and two teams from the Open Qualifiers; and the Affiliated Conference, which features the junior teams from Season 14 of MPL Malaysia. The top 4 teams from each conference are reflected below:

Additionally, the Playoffs will host the crucial "Challenger vs Defender" match at 12:30 AM (GMT+8) on 27 October, right before the Grand Finals. The match will pit the 2nd-placed Challenger Conference team from the Regular Season, Young & Dangerous, against the 9th-placed team in MPL Malaysia Season 14, Team HAQ, with the winner to secure a spot in Season 15 of MPL Malaysia.

The MAL MY Regular Season's 1st-placed Challenger Conference team, Miracle Gaming, earned automatic promotion to MPL Malaysia Season 15; MPL Malaysia's 10th-placed team this season, RSG MY, was relegated to MAL MY and will compete in the MAL MY Challenger Conference in Season 3.

Introducing Season 2's Revamped Playoffs Format!

The second season of MAL MY will feature a revamped format for the Playoffs. Instead of its inaugural season's sudden-death format, Season 2 will be double-elimination. All matches will be Best-Of-Three (BO3), except for the Upper Bracket and Lower Bracket Finals, which will be Best-Of-Five (BO5) matches, and the Grand Finals, which will be Best-Of-Seven (BO7).

Devin Chan, Esports Manager at MOONTON Games, said: "Following the great response from last season's inaugural Playoffs, we have further optimised Season 2 by restructuring the league's format. The new format brings MAL MY closer to parity with internationally acclaimed competitive esports events such as ongoing MPL Malaysia and the recently-concluded MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2024 x Esports World Cup, which carry the same structures. These allow our budding esports talents to experience the rigours of top-level competition and better prepare them for the day they represent Malaysia on the global stage."

Another optimisation in Season 2 sees the top-ranked teams in the Regular Season the right to choose their opponents in the first two rounds of the Playoffs. In the first round, Affiliated Conference 1st-place team, TODAK LEGION, selected Challenger Conference's 4th-place team, Kelantan, while Challenger Conference 1st-place team, Miracle Gaming, selected Affiliated Conference's 4th-place team, Red Alpha.
