The Regular Season throne can only seat one.

All eyes will be on Selangor Red Giants Jungler, Sekys, when the defending champions take on Team Vamos next Saturday.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 23 September Selangor Red Giants and Team Vamos will vie to be King of the Regular Season in Week 4: Minggu Diraja (meaning "Royal Week" in Bahasa Malaysia) of MPL Malaysia Season 14. Both teams sit at the top of the standings at the midway point of the Regular Season following victories in Week 3. But the throne only has room for one team, with the match winner set to go clear at the top.

At the end of the Week 3 Regular Season, Selangor Red Giants top the standings (11 points), followed by Team Vamos (10 points) and Monster Vicious (8 points).

Please see the table below for the full Regular Season, Week 3 standings:

Week 3 Recap: League leaders capitalise on mid-table reshuffle

Week 3 of the Season 14 Regular Season saw the league frontrunners capitalise on a series of mid-table upsets to consolidate their positions at the top of the table. Selangor Red Giants, Team Vamos, and Monster Vicious registered wins over RED Esports, TODAK, and Team Rey respectively to maintain their placements going into Week 4.

Selangor Red Giants proved why they were the strongest MLBB team at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh after executing a clean sweep over RED Esports on Day 1. The Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2024 champions ruthlessly took down RED Esports in straight games, with Jungler Muhammad Haqqullah "Sekys" bin Ahmad Shahrul Zaman starring as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Match. Sekys continues to thrive in the current assassin meta, securing nine kills, zero deaths, and 15 assists across two games as the hero Nolan.

Team Vamos kept pace with Selangor Red Giants after overcoming three-time MPL Malaysia champions, TODAK, 2-1 in a hard-fought battle that could have gone either way. Fans were treated to a vintage showing from TODAK; despite having the league's largest roster with 10 players, the nation's most decorated MLBB team returned to their roots by fielding an all-Malaysian line-up and deploying a "langgar" (meaning "to hit" in Bahasa Malaysia) playstyle, characterised by cavalier and a seemingly non-structured strategy. However, Team Vamos were not to be outdone, both in terms of gameplay and history – they are co-owned by ex-MPL Malaysia player, Faris "Soloz" Zakaria, who retired in 2019 and has since made a career as Malaysia's most-followed content creator. The tipping point of Game 3 came when Team Vamos' Jungler, Muhammad Nazhan "Chibi" bin Mohd Nor, stole the Elemental Lord in the 13th minute. With the Lord charging down the bottom lane, Kenneth "Nets" Barro secured a pair of double kills in quick succession to crack TODAK's defences open and earn him the MVP of the Match.

But while RED Esports, TODAK, and Team Rey may have lost to the league's strongest teams in Week 3, each of them also notched significant wins in their other matches over the weekend to take up mid-table places.

The most notable win was RED Esports' massive upset over fourth-placed JP NINERS on Day 3, which propelled them into sixth place. The clash was a reunion for Muhammad Firdaus "Aush" Bin Shahrol, who plied his trade at JP NINERS last season. RED Esports' Tactical Coach outfox his old employers by setting his team up to take advantage of JP NINERS' aggression, allowing his team to punish his opponents when they overextended. 31st SEA Games gold medallist, Lee "Owl" Howard Gonzales, also played a pivotal role in executing Aush's vision. The Filipino's employed masterful macro play through his use of Beatrix (Game 1) and Bruno (Game 2) to be named the MVP of the Match.

A Royal Rumble awaits in Week 4!

Kings can be born or made. So it will be seen when the King Candidates of MPL Malaysia take centerstage in Week 4: Minggu Diraja.

Monster Vicious and Homebois kick off Minggu Diraja at 3:15 PM GMT+8 on 27 September. As the only team this season with an entire roster that is "Buatan Malaysia" (meaning "Made in Malaysia" in Bahasa Malaysia), Monster Vicious are proving that the local esports ecosystem has progressed to a level where imports are unnecessary to challenge for the league title. They will be looking to continue their three-match win streak against an out-of-sorts Homebois side, who are still seeking their first win of the season after losing most of their team in the off-season.

Seru Saturday will feature the most highly anticipated match of the season when Selangor Red Giants go up against Team Vamos at 3:00 PM GMT+8. Only one point separates the Season 14 favourites at the top of the table, with the winner to earn the right to the Regular Season throne. However, Selangor Red Giants will be aiming to end Minggu Diraja at the top of the table, regardless of their result against Team Vamos, having an additional match in Week 4 over their rivals – the defending champions play again on Day 3 against bottom-of-the-table RSG Malaysia.

Day 3 will see the TODAK monarchy look to asset dominance over Homebois at 3:00 PM GMT+8. With TODAK having shown shades of their former glory in recent matches, Homebois will require all of their wits and skill to show that one does not have to be born into royalty to rule.
