The story of MPL Malaysia began in the days when professional esports was just a distant dream for most. Local heroes like Team Saiyan and Soloz captured the nation’s imagination, becoming the faces of a new era. Every win started to gather more community—each international result, a breakthrough.

In 2019, Malaysia took its first SEA Games bronze medal, placing the nation on the global esports map. That same year, Todak, led by stars like Moon and Ciku, stunned the world by finishing Top 3 at the M1 World Championship on home ground. The stadium was packed, the community was electrified—Malaysia had arrived.

This era was about firsts: the first MYSG champions, the first international medals, the first time Malaysia dared to dream that esports could unite a generation.

Struggling for a Breakthrough

As the initial glory faded, MPL MY entered an era marked by uncertainty and relentless self-examination. Dominated by teams like Todak, the league struggled with a lack of competitive diversity—Malaysia’s sole international flagbearers, but their results kept slipping on the regional stage.

In search of growth, legends like Sasa and Rippo returned. The league saw a wave of imported talent from the Philippines and Indonesia, all in hopes of sparking a new fire. Yet, the breakthrough remained elusive, and fans began to question whether Malaysian esports could truly rise again.

Then came a silver lining: at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, Team Malaysia shocked the region by reaching their first-ever grand finals and claiming a historic silver medal. It was a turning point— as a reminder that, despite setbacks, the fire still burned.

This was an era of challenges, rebuilding, and resilience. Malaysia learned to look inwards, embrace its flaws, and push for a new standard.

Rebirth and the Pursuit of Greatness

After the heartbreak of group stage exits at M5 for both Homebois and SMG, the Malaysian community was forced to confront hard truths. The league could no longer live on past glory—change was urgent and inevitable.</p><p>Enter SRG: denied a shot at M5, they rebuilt from the ground up. Their stunning run at MSC 2024 brought Malaysia its first-ever international title, reigniting hope across the nation.

In this new era, the league saw fresh blood, powerful imports, and rising local stars. While SRG continued their dominance, challengers began to emerge. Malaysia took home a world title at IESF 2024, and as the M6 and S15 seasons unfolded, it was clear the league was on an upward path—but the work was far from over.

This marks the beginning of MPL MY’s partnership programme, where the league moves into a more structured, long-term ecosystem built around stable team identities, stronger professionalism, and deeper investment in the future. It is the era where MPL MY shifts from simply running seasons to building a lasting sports entertainment property, one that grows teams, stars, fan culture, and Malaysia’s presence on the international stage.

MPL MY S17 (2026)

MPL MY S17 marked the beginning of a new era as the league’s first-ever Partnership Programme season, bringing together eight committed organisations under a more stable, long-term competitive structure. Yet while the league entered a new era, Selangor Red Giants remained the defending giant everyone had to overcome. RRQ Tora made the first statement by leading after an unbeaten opening week, but SRG quickly reclaimed control and finished the regular season first with a 12–2 record.

The chase behind them continued to evolve: Invictus Gaming established itself as a contender powered by breakout talent, Team Rey recovered from a difficult season start to reach the final top four, Team Vamos developed steadily to a genuine title challenger, and Bigetron MY found its best form late enough to secure a playoff place. AC Esports produced the season’s greatest regular-season shock by being the first to defeating SRG, proving that the champions were no longer untouchable, but inconsistency ultimately left them outside the top six alongside Team Flash.

At the Dream Stage, Team Vamos became the defining playoff story, recovering from an upper-bracket defeat to eliminate Bigetron MY and sweep iG on its way to the Grand Finals. However, SRG answered every challenge when it mattered the most, defeating Team Vamos 4–0 to secure a fifth consecutive MPL MY championship. S17 therefore became both the foundation of MPL MY’s Partnership Era and another chapter in SRG’s historic dynasty, a season where new challengers, organisations and stars emerged, but the throne ultimately remained unchanged.
